So what brings me back? Oh. well, funny you should ask. I broke my arm and I got engaged. Yes, in that order. No need to go into the details of breaking my arm other than I was just trying to complete a daily task without thinking and ended up with a small fracture. And then a little over 2 weeks after that happened, my boyfriend of almost 8 years planned a very romantic and fun weekend getaway to Maine which included getting down on one knee and asking me to marry him.
It was fantastic and what I love the most was that he had my ring for 5 months but was waiting for the perfect time to ask. So freaking sweet. Also, another reason I love reading old blog posts is because I find awesome things like this: "B is genuine, quirky, funny, dedicated, compassionate, strong, classy. He is always willing to help my family and his own. He is handsome and dresses well. I love his muscles. and he knows me." I found that one on a livejournal post circa 2014 lol. And yes its a little embarrassing (I have a way of listing things like no one else) but its all still true! I'm so proud of this guy and even though I'm still getting used to saying this...I'm so excited to marry him. :)
Additionally, we have both graduated from PT school, me in 2015 and B in 2016. I originally planned on setting up camp in CT and getting a job down there but apparently God had different plans for me and revealed a job opening at my last clinical placement in Boston. I got the job and moved back up to Boston! And then B decided to follow after he graduated because the opportunity I got was too good to pass up. So 2016 has been big -- B graduated, we moved in together, I made it to working 1 full year at my first job, I broke my arm (finally, my first broken bone!), and now we are engaged. It really is crazy how everything we have worked towards over the past 7-8 years have finally come to fruition. But, like, SERIOUSLY crazy!
And now we come full circle to why I'm writing all of this. I've been on short term disability for 2 months while recovering and have been looking into wedding everything for the past month/month and a half. Primarily struggling and becoming frustrated with the initial steps of wedding planning: guest list, budget, and finding a venue. Its really HARD. A question that I have been getting a lot lately has been, "Wow, what have you been doing with all your free time? Aren't you bored??". Well 1) I took advantage of this time to watch all the seasons of Gilmore Girls before the revival is released after Thanksgiving (never watched the show besides the random re-runs!) and 2) I have been looking into venue after venue and any "wedding on a budget" blog that I can find. Yes, this doesn't sound like much but I have come to find its quite time consuming! And I only realize this in retrospect because I too ask myself what I have actually done with all this spare time I have been gifted. I am also a person that strives for being productive and being efficient so not having a super long list of things I have accomplished while out of work kind of kills me inside. And, no, I do not secretly want to be a stay at home mom but after cleaning the apartment, doing the weekly grocery shopping, and making dinner almost every night for 2 months I can definitely see how some people have to!
But alright, rant over. I'm hoping if I document my wedding planning journey then I might be able to help others in the future. Not by becoming a professional wedding planner but by just giving other future brides a story to read and maybe even some advice that I learn along the way. Guess we'll just have to wait and see. But I do know that first and foremost, I recommend punching the world of wedding planning in the face!
Just kidding. Sort of. 😉
xoxo,
Cass
